| The Heartland Association was formed in 2002 by
a group of vendors that included Top Score Games of Columbus, GI Music
(now Mid Nebraska Coin) of Grand Island, Howard Sales of Omaha and Taylor
Amusements of Lincoln. One of the biggest goals of the association was
to make the Heartland open to pool league players from all over the state. The Heartland Association held its first pool tournament at Madsen's (Lincoln) in 2002. There were about 25 teams that competed in two divisions. The singles competition had about 50 players. After nine years of growth the 2010 tournament was held last January at the New World Inn in Columbus. There were 80 teams in Open Division, 14 teams in the Intermediate Division and 29 teams in the Sportsmen's Division. The Sportsmen's Division was for teams that lost two out of their first three matches. There were 270 players that played in the Open, Intermediate, Master's and Women's singles and 385 that played in the teams. Every player that participates in the Heartland Tournament is given an individual rating by a committee from each individual's league that is based on talent and tournament money won. Those ratings are overseen by two master players Keith Stewart and Jerry Siefken that have over 40 years of combined tournament experience. What the ratings create are a great amount of parity in the singles and team competition. You must be a Nebraska resident to participate in the Heartland (except Master's singles). There are 3 levels of ratings. "Master", "Intermediate" (A) and "Open" (B & C players). Intermediate teams may have only (1) "Master" on a team. Open teams may have only (1) Intermediate and no "Master's" on a team. All tournament matches are played on 7' Valley bar tables with Granito cloth and red circle cue balls. There are no green fees charged for the tournament and all sanction fees are added back to the tournament. All leagues and associations rank their players based on different criteria. The Heartland chooses to rank its players on known ability and individual money won in all tournaments, not just Heartland events. Due to the number of "Master" players in the Heartland Association and not being able to field a competitive team division at this time there will be no "Master's" team division at the 2011 Heartland Tournament. The 2011"Master's" singles will have a $30.00 entry fee for sanctioned league members and $60.00 for non-sanctioned players. 1st place in the "Master's" singles will be "Guaranteed" $600.00. There is an updated 2010 "Master's" list posted on the website. The Open team division will consist of 16 games per match with each player playing their opponent one game each. Teams that dont cash in the main tournament will be eligible to play in the Sportsmen's Division (formerly second chance). The Sportsmens Division will begin on Sunday morning. There is a $20.00 entry fee per team for the Sportsmens Division Tournament. In the Intermediate team division each player will play their opponent 2 games every time at the table, taking turns breaking. This format makes it easier to get in stroke and gives you a chance to get back at your opponent if they run out on you the first game. With this format you are usually only waiting 15-20 minutes before you are back at the table playing 2 more games. Plus the fact that all players are playing a total of 8 games each for a total of 32 games in the match. All matches in both divisions are played on 2 tables. VNEA 10 point scoring is used and most total points win the match in both divisions. If the teams are tied in total points after all games have been played, the last round will be replayed with the same order. The teams will flip for the first break and alternate breaks . The Open and Intermediate team divisions are drawn up in bracket form. For you pool players in the Beatrice-Crete area wanting to become eligible for the 2011 Heartland tournament there will be a Heartland league on Sunday's for the 2010-2011 season. Sign up deadline for this league is Sept 11th. Contact Rhonda Pomajzl at (402)430-1783. We are presently taking to Fremont, Kearney and West Point about joining the Heartland. |

rating that is determined by a committee of knowledgeable players from each
individual league based on league play and tournament money won. The ratings
are overseen by two master players Keith Stewart and Jerry Siefken who have
over 40 years of tournament experience combined. What The ratings create are
a great amount of parity in the singles and teams. To play in the Heartland
Association you must be a Nebraska resident. By limiting the membership to Nebraska
residents only it is much easier to rate players. There are three levels of
ratings. Master, Intermediate (A) and Open
(B & C players). Intermediate teams may have only (1) Master on the team
and Open teams may have only (1) Intermediate player and no Masters on
the team. There are only 4 players on a team in both divisions. All tournament
matches are played on open valley bar tables with granito cloth and red circle
cue balls. There are no green fees charged for the tournament and all sanction
money is added back to the tournament. Due to the number of Master
players in the Heartland Association and not being able to field a competitive
division at this time there will be no Masters team division
at the 2010 Heartland Tournament. All leagues and associations rank their Master
players based on different criteria. The Heartland chooses to rate its Masters
on known ability and individual money won in all tournaments, not just Heartland
events. There will be a Heartland Masters list posted on the web site
in the near future. The Heartland Masters singles will be open to any
player from Nebraska. There will be a $30.00 entry fee for sanctioned players
and a $60.00 entry fee for non-sanctioned players. The Masters singles
will have a guaranteed $800.00 first place. In the Intermediate team division
each player will play their opponent 2 games each every time at the table and
they will take turns breaking. Teams will play all matches on 2 tables. This
format makes it easier to get in stroke and a chance to get back at your opponent
if they win the first game. With this format you are usually only waiting 15-20
minutes before you are back to the table playing 2 more games. Plus the fact
that all players play a total of 8 games each for a total of 32 games in the
match. In the Open division all matches consisted of 16 games per match with
